OHV Scout

A rare project.

1927 Indian Scout overhead valve project. Not everything is shown in the photo; many small parts are included. If you build this with an Indian crankshaft, you’ll have a 750cc overhead valve engine, but since these open crankshafts are too weak, it’s best to install a Harley crankshaft with Indian pins (available commercially) to create an 840cc overhead valve engine. This looks like a standard Scout frame but is slightly larger and also has mounting lugs to secure the cylinders to the frame for added strength. The base is Scout, but the cylinders are the precursors to the Altoona that came later, and they’re also an improved version of the Bigsby, as this model features larger valves and larger intake and exhaust ports.

A very nice foundation for building a rare race car project.
