Rare early French cardan bicycle, Metropole model Acatène. Beautiful original version with the old brake and early-style pedal mounts. It’s rare to come across one from before 1900, and certainly not one with the protective covers still on the sprockets. Unlike the FN cardan bicycles, the rear axle does not rotate inside a tube; instead, the drive shaft rotates fully with the rear wheel. This is a rare racing model. It’s beautiful with its original headset plate and—very rare indeed—a large frame.
