Neracar was a originally developed in USA by Carl A. Neracher in 1917. The name was a pun on his name and on Nearly-a-Car because this precursor to a scooter gave a lot of protection to the rider. Pretty soon these were also made under license in UK like this one. The engine was a 285cc 2 tact with roller drive. This was done by attaching to the output shaft of the engine a disc that at right angles drove a 2nd disc driving the rear wheel. With a lever my could control this 2nd disc so that it ran more centrally or on the outside and thus had different transmissions. Also special was the hub steering of the front wheel. In 1926 an English law came into force requiring motorcycles to have a front brake as well and they couldn't get that regulated at Neracar in combination with the hub steering. This Neracar stood for years in an Italian motorcycle museum. There are currently only 2 Neracar's known with an original sidecar.
