Norton ES2 1938 500cc ohv (Ex Nogier) with special sprung rear frame and rear stand that folds forward. Basic model for Norton OHV was model 18. This one had an open frame. The sport model was the ES2. This had a closed frame under the engine for more stability. As an option in 1939 (from October 1938) one could buy at an additional cost this sprung rear frame this was available in 2 versions, with central stand or this forward folding short rear stand. Very rare as few motorcycles were sold due to the war and because Norton was a very expensive motorcycle. This Norton was 25% more expensive than an FN M86. The ES2 is as expensive as an Excelsior Manxman 350cc or an Indian Sport Scout. The BSA 500cc Goldstar M24 is 5% cheaper. This motorcycle was given by Norton to the French racer Nogier to promote this suspension rear frame. After the war, Nogier took the motorcycle to his friend and racer André Barthé to overhaul the engine. Motorcycle was then left as a decoration in racer Barthé's motorcycle store. Later he then bought it over. And now after years of dry storage here for sale. Completely original, everything nice and good. Ridden very little. Reconditioned engine. Must be restarted. Comes from the estate of ex racer André Barthé.
