English P&M (later Panther) 3 1/2HP 500cc 1 cylinder of late 1918.
Phelon & Moore was a motorcycle factory started in 1904 at Cleckheaton in South Yorkshire. Their trademark was the angled cylinder that was part of the frame. One of the first developments they made was the 2-speed transmission using 2 primary chains. With the handle on the right side of the tank one could select reverse first gear, center neutral and forward was 2nd gear. All this without a real gearbox and without gears. Otherwise a very modern motorcycle with fully enclosed chain.
Motorcycle is completely original and comes from a very old collection. Last ridden in 1958!
