P515 HS

Rare sport motorcycle with hairpin springs.

In 1933 Peugeot launched a new series of motorcycles of their top models. They were presented under the title "Le motos de grande puissance". The high-performance bikes. The models had the new block engine and were P115 (350cc OHV) and P117 (350cc side valve) and 515 (500cc OHV) and 517 (500cc side valve). These were available in many designs. Because they were their top models, you could choose from 4 different mudguards and 4 different exhaust silencers and painted or with extra chrome. The customer could make his own motorcycle out of the large variety of parts. Because of this complicated construction according to the customer's wishes, the motorcycles were very expensive and of all these models only 3150 were sold. Very few where the very expensive 500cc OHV versions. The 500cc OHV model has won many races by the factory riders of Peugeot. With the 500cc there are nine world records broken in 1934, 3 different records in 3 different classes: 500 - 750 and 1000cc. The average speed in the 24 hour record lasted until 1974 until it was broken by a 1000cc Kawasaki! The offered P515 GS (Grand Sport) is a 500cc OHV from 1934. In 1934 (made only 1 year) a special GS version was made with a convex piston for higher compression to drive Benzol during races. This version doesn't have the normal valve springs either, but the hairpin springs that were used during the race. Furthermore, this version was equipped with the larger race brakes with cooling fins and special valves. Here you now have a unique opportunity to buy a very rare French sports bike that can be used on the road or on race tracks. This motorcycle has all sidecar connections and the engine has a very good compression. You can also take the gears.
