Very rare French Phébus tricycle Spécial De Course from 1898.
The Noé Boyer & Cie company from Suresnes in France belonged to the Société Gladiator and, in addition to its own car production, it began in 1898 to produce tricycles and quadricycles under the Phébus brand name. The production ended in 1903. In England the brand name was Automobilette.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, cars and motorbikes became very popular with the richer population. Especially the tricycles (3-wheelers) and quadricycles (4-wheelers) were enormously popular. Many races were organised up to a distance of 1500km.
This tricycle has the special front brake for racing and has the large front sprocket for speed. Because of this there is a special mounting of the surface mounted carburettor. Engine is a Dion de Bouton. Fully serviced and in working order on modern carburettor. Surface-mounted carburettor is complete and original but still needs to be checked.
