Saroléa 23K Colonette 500c OHV of 1925. This is a factory racer model Colonette (tie rods).
There are only about 6 known of this Colonette model! And this is the early first model.
This motorcycle started its life as a 23G in 1924 (see photo original sales register of Saroléa 23G in brackets after entry 23K) This motorcycle was prepared by the factory for the Belgian racer Charlier. At the factory it was modified to a 23K. That is, the rear rim brake of the 23G was changed to a drum brake and the push-in handlebars (model bicycle handlebars) of a 1924 were replaced by a handlebar in clamps. This motorcycle was delivered on Feb. 9, 1925 to Charlier to race for the Saroléa brand. Racing motorcycles were always improved with the latest techniques . Also this bike was modified by Charlier/Saroléa factory in 1928 with a front fork and wheels of 1928. But with the racing brakes with cooling fins which are very rare.
This engine is completely different from the normal OHV! This can be seen by the tie rods (colonette) that hold the special cylinder head on the cylinder and are fixed in the crankcase. This meant that the crankcase had to be wider and an iron ring was poured into the crankcase to hold the cylinder against. Totally different from a normal OHV.
Motorcycle also has the correct racing carburetor.
