English Triumph model 6T Thunderbird of 1952. This is a 650cc 2 cylinder OHV.
Jack Sangster, the owner of Ariel bought Triumph in 1936 and made Edward Turner director of Triumph. Turner designs the Speed Twin 5T. This is the better 2 cylinder version of the 6/1 still designed by Val Page. The success of this Speedtwin was inhibited by the 2nd World War but in 1947 production was restarted. In 1950 came a heavier version of the 500cc Speedtwin. This was the 650cc Thunderbird. For the presentation of this sports model Triumph went to France to ride on the race track of Montlhéry. Here, 3 Triumph Thunderbirds rode 500 miles at an average speed of over 90 miles per hour. After this feat, these 3 motorcycles rode the road once more back to the factory in Meriden UK.
The project offered here was disassembled years ago for restoration and never finished. Due to moving a few times, some parts have disappeared. Motorcycle is now being rebuilt so you will soon be able to get a good look at what is there and what is missing.
